What makes the gospel good news?
What makes the gospel good news?
We all sin.
23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; — Romans 3:23 (CSB)
We all sin.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23,CSB)
Sin is not a word most people use in their everyday conversation. What is sin? What does that word mean?
To put it simply sin is anything that does not align with God’s good will for us. We sin with our words, our thoughts, and our actions.
Because we all sin, we all fail to live up to the standards God has for us.

Sin produces death.
23 For the wages of sin is death. — Romans 6:23 (CSB)
Sin produces death.
For the wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23, CSB)
The wages of sin is death. We all understand wages. Wages are what we earn for our work. What does our sin earn for us? According to the Scriptures our sin earns us death.

The good news of the gospel is that Jesus died for sinners. On the cross Jesus stood in the place of sinners like you and me. He did not die for his own sin because Jesus never sinned. He died for our sins. His death paid our debt.

You can be saved by faith.
For you are saved by grace through faith — Ephesians 2:8 (CSB)

Faith simply means to trust. If you trust that Jesus’ death was enough to satisfy your sin debt, you have salvation.
Salvation doesn’t come from trying hard to be good enough. It doesn’t come from doing certain rituals or achieving a certain religious status.
Salvation comes only through faith in Jesus.

Will you trust in Jesus today?
Truly I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life
and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life. — John 5:24

Trusting in Jesus is the best decision you could ever make. When you trust in Jesus, God forgives you of all your sins. When you trust in Jesus, you have a right relationship with God. When you trust in Jesus, you have eternal life.
Will you trust in Jesus today?
Here is a simple way you can do that right now by talking with God, which is what we call prayer. Saying a prayer doesn’t save you from your sins. Only trusting in Jesus can do that. But prayer is how we talk with God. And prayer is how we can communicate to God that we have put our trust in Jesus.
Father God, I realize that I am a sinner. I confess that because I am a sinner I have fallen short of your standard. I know my sin earns me death. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and I believe he rose from the grave. Today I put my trust in Jesus. His death paid my debt, and because of him I have forgiveness and eternal life. Thank you for your grace. Thank you for Jesus. Amen.
